The Medicine Hat U19B Mustangs captured gold at the Jim Benning Ringette tournament in Regina over the weekend, beating the BP Blitz 6-4 in the final Sunday.

The Medicine Hat U19B Mustangs were golden at Regina’s Jim Benning Ringette tournament over the weekend.
The Mustangs opened the tournament against the Regina Ravens, winning 8-2. Ryleigh Jackiw had four goals and two assists, Avi Velichko had four assists, Ravyn Lehr, Ava Allchurch and Jayna Allchurch each had a goal and an assist, Reese Tabor also scored.
They lost their second round-robin game, falling 8-2 to the BP Blitz. Jayna Allchurch scored both Mustang goals.
However, they rebounded with an all-around effort in their third game, winning 12-3 over the SWRA Fury. Leighton Wright had a seven-point effort with four goals and three assists, Jackiw had two goals and four assists, Kensie Provost had a goal and three assists, Velichko had two goals and two assists, Lehr scored twice, Ava Allchurch had a goal and two assists.
They won their last round-robin game, skating to a 6-5 win. Wright had three goals, Jackiw had a goal and two assists and both Velichko and Provost had a goal.
The Mustangs then beat the Regina Rise 8-7 to punch their finals ticket. Wright had a pair of goals and assists, Provost scored twice, Jackiw had a goal and three assists, Velichko had a goal and an assist and both Jayna and Ava Allchurch scored.
They got their revenge in the finals against the BP Blitz, winning 6-4 to claim gold and also handed the Blitz their first loss of the season.
Jackiw had a hat trick, adding an assist. Wright had two goals and an assist, Velichko had a goal and an assist, Provost had three helpers and Lehr had two assists.
The U19B Mustangs are at home on Sunday, hosting the Chinook League’s top team, Calgary NW1. They play at 1 and 4 p.m. at the Moose Rec Centre.
U12
The U12C Mustangs were in Lethbridge over the weekend for a two-game series against the Rattlers, coming away with wins, their first of the year.
In the opening game, the Mustangs cruised to a 10-3 win, with goals from Addison Staheli, Maizee Trotter, Jayla Klaudt, Kimber Moch and Adelynn McKinley. Kylee Drever and Ellie Weisgerber contributed with assists throughout the game.
The second matchup was a nail biter, as the Mustangs held off the Rattlers for a 10-7 victory. Goaltender Nora Dunn stood tall in net, helping secure the sweep and a winning start to the new year for the U12C Mustangs.
Mini Mustangs

The Medicine Hat Ringette Association held its Mini Mustangs tournament over the weekend, welcoming 14 teams from southern Alberta, featuring Active Start, U10 Step 1 and 2 teams to the Moose and Kinplex.
The U10 Step 2 Mustangs faced Lethbridge-2 in the first game, with Kylie Klaudt scoring and both Adelyn Morvik and Sadie Ryks in net.
They faced Lethbridge-1 in the second game, seeing Ashlee Dupuis, Brinley Chabluk and Klaudt scoring, Teagan Forsyth and Talia Chartrand split duties in net.
The Mustangs then faced Bow View, seeing Chabluk score three goals. Olive Roste, Klaudt, Forsyth and Addison Clegg all scored, Dupuis and Klaudt were in net.
Their last game of the weekend came against Lethbridge-2. Chabluk scored a second hat trick on the weekend. Morvik, Klaudt and Clegg each scored, Roste and Dupuis were between the pipes.
No game scores were reported.
The U10 Step 1 Mustangs took part in the Mini Mustangs tournament this weekend as well. Saturday they played Calgary Bow View Striking Stingrays and the Lethbridge U10 Step 2-2. Sunday, they had games against Lethbridge U10 Step 2-2 and Calgary’s Friendly Axolotls. No scores were reported for the games.
The MHRA’s active start program of 45 skaters were split into three teams for the tournament, playing in their first ringette games.
