Make it a baker’s dozen: Tigers win final game of 2025 for 13th straight victory

The Medicine Hat Tigers carry their winning ways into 2026.

The Tigers thumped the Red Deer Rebels 8-0 Tuesday on the road for a 13th straight win, their longest win streak since a stretch of 17 straight in 2007. The longest win streak last season was 12 games.

The Tigers twin duo of Markus and Liam Ruck, playing in their 100th WHL games, led the offence. Liam had a pair of goals, Markus scored once, both had three assists.

Liam’s first goal came shorthanded, when Markus carried the puck into the Red Deer end before faking a shot and dropping it off for his younger brother to score. Markus’ goal, his eighth, extends his team-leading point streak to 13 games. Misha Volotovskii also scored shorthanded for the Tigers.

Jonas Woo (18), Noah Davidson (10), Kadon McCann (13) and Kade Stengrim (7) all scored in the win.

Captain Bryce Pickford had an assist, giving him points in 11 straight games. He went without a goal for the first time in nine games. Woo also extends his point streak to 11 games.

Jordan Switzer made 23 saves for his 15th win of the season and his first shutout of the year, fifth of his WHL career.

The Tigers outshot Red Deer 41-23 and won the face-off battle 29-26. They went 3-5 on the power play and held Red Deer scoreless on five power plays.

There was no love lost between the clubs Tuesday night, just a little over a day removed from a 7-4 Tigers’ win Sunday over the Rebels at Co-op Place. Both teams combined for 210 penalty minutes in the mid-week matchup.

Including two regular seasons, playoffs and Memorial Cup action, the Tigers finish the calendar year of 2025 with a 70-12-4-3 record.

The Tigers (25-6-3-2) open the new year with a home-and-home against the Moose Jaw Warriors, hosting the 2024 WHL Champions on Friday before heading to Saskatchewan on Saturday. Friday’s game at Co-op Place gets underway at 7 p.m.
