SAHA Roundup: SAHA U18 women’s team beats Edge, takes season series

The South Alberta Hockey Academy’s U18 women’s team took care of business with their lone game of the week.

They beat the Edge School 5-3 on Saturday to win the season series 3-2.

Maria Facca had a pair of goals and each of Kailey Karpan, Riley Bourque and Sara Stefanic found the back of the net. Sara Murdoch tallied three assists and Chloe Kachur had two helpers. Mika Yokota made 27 saves.

U18

SAHA’s U18 men’s team played a pair of weekday games, recording two wins as part of a five-game win streak.

They beat the Prairie Hockey Academy 4-2 on Dec. 2 and topped the Notre Dame Hounds on Friday.

In the win over the Prairie Hockey Academy, Dylan Scherban had a goal and an assist and all three of Kingston Chisholm, Ty Wasyluk and Damen Vanderberg had a goal. Cash Christie made 30 saves.

Seven players had multi-point efforts in the win over Notre Dame.

Wasyluk had three goals, Kutcher Aquila had a pair of goals and assists, Vanderberg had a goal and two assists and both Chisholm and Karter Kurpjuweit had a goal and an assist. Hunter Saddleback had three assists, Kayne Wright had two helpers. Hunter Zawislak made 17 saves.

SAHA’s U18 men’s team host Prairie Academy on Friday at the Big Marble Go Centre for a 7:45 p.m. contest.

U17

SAHA’s U17 men’s team took part in the Border Battle tournament in Denver, Col. last week.

They had a pair of games Friday, losing 4-1 to the Sioux Falls Power before beating the Omaha Mastery 4-2.

In the loss to Sioux Falls, Madden Wright scored SAHA’s lone goal. Chase Neilson was in net, no shot totals were recorded.

Against Omaha, Briggs Fabro had two goals and an assist and both Kai Ducharme and Oakland Black had goals. Paxton Smigelski made 20 saves.

They lost 8-3 Sunday to the Dallas Stars Elite. Nixon Bettenson, Fabro and Eric Schrock each scored, Nielson was in net.

SAHA ended the weekend with a 4-1 loss Sunday to the Rocky Mountain Roughriders.

Juris Besse had a goal, Smigelski made 16 saves.
