Medicine Hat News The Medicine Hat Tigers played the comeback card Friday night in Moose Jaw. They trailed the Warriors 2-0 after 20 minutes before scoring three straight to win 4-3 in overtime on captain Bryce Pickford’s second goal of the night. The win is the sixth in a row for the Tigers who have also pick up points in 10 straight games. The Warriors opened the scoring with a pair in the first period coming off the sticks of defenceman Connor Schmidt and forward Landen McFadden. Their two first period goals came on three shots. Defenceman Kyle Heger got the Tigers on the board before the halfway point of the second period. Forward Kadon McCann carried the puck into the Moose Jaw end and dropped the puck off for Heger who wired a shot from the top of the circles to make it a 2-1 game with his fourth of the year. Forward Yaroslav Bryzgalov had the second assist. Pickford’s first of the night came with seven seconds left in the second, Jonas Woo and Ethan Neutens with the assists. He fired a shot from the point that beat starter Chase Wutzke, bouncing off his glove and into the net. The Tigers made a goaltending change after 40 minutes, pulling starter Carter Casey who allowed three goals on 11 shots. Jordan Switzer took over and stopped all three shots he faced for his 11th win on the year. Just 18 seconds into the third period, Noah Davidson scored his eighth to tie the game at 3-3. Liam and Markus Ruck had the assists on the goal that saw Davidson get the third knock on a rebound to tie the game. The Tigers outshot Moose Jaw 17-3 in the third period but couldn’t break the tie, send the contest into what was eventually a brief overtime. Pickford carried the puck up ice along the boards before breaking in and scoring on Wutzke 20 seconds into overtime to seal the win and notch the game-winning goal for the second straight game. Woo had the lone assist on Pickford’s game winner, his team and WHL defenceman leading 17th of the season. Medicine Hat outshot the Warriors 40-14, Moose Jaw won the face-off battle 29-24. Neither side scored on a power play, the Tigers going 0-2 and Moose Jaw 0-3. The Tigers (18-6-3-1) host the Wenatchee Wild on Saturday for the Medicine Hat News Teddy Bear Toss game. Fans attending Saturday’s game are encouraged to bring new stuffed animals or winter gear to be thrown onto the ice after the first Tiger goal. All items should be bagged to keep moisture out.
