sports@medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews The Western Canadian Baseball League released their schedule for the 2026 summer season. Opening Day will take place Thursday, May 28 with five games across two provinces. The Medicine Hat Mavericks will host the defending champion Regina Red Sox at Athletic Park. Other East Division season openers include the Moose Jaw Miller Express visiting Mitchell Field for a date with the Swift Current 57’s and the Saskatoon Berries taking on the Weyburn Beavers at Tom Laing Park. “We’re incredibly excited to announce the 2026 schedule. It promises special days and nights at the ballpark, as well as the thrill of competition between intense rivals as teams chase down playoff spots,” said WCBL President Kevin Kvame. “We cannot wait to see the best fans in baseball return to our ballparks.” The Mavericks have made a change to their game time starts, with Monday-Saturday games to start at 6:45 p.m., changed from 7:05 p.m. Sunday games will remain their 2:05 p.m. first pitch. The Mavs say gate opening times will be announced at a later date and the organization says they made the move due to popular fan feedback. The other reasons for the move are to give fans the opportunity to stay longer and get home earlier, families with children to enjoy more of the game and allow fans to enjoy dinner at Athletic Park. The Mavs will be on the road for Father’s Day, playing the Bombers at Elks Field in Brooks. They will also hit the road for Canada Day’s celebrations, heading to Moose Jaw to face the Miller Express at Ross Wells Park. The WCBL’s all-star game will move from Okotoks to Saskatoon this year, with the ceremonies held across two days, July 18 and 19. The WCBL all-star game and home run derby have traditionally taken place in a single day but in cooperation with the league, the Berries will be hosting the league’s first ever two-day event. The final night of the WCBL regular season is Wednesday, Aug. 5 with all 12 teams in action. Medicine Hat will wrap up their 56-game schedule in Swift Current, taking on the 57s at Mitchell Field. The WCBL playoffs get underway Aug. 7 as eight teams being their push to capture the Harry Hallis Memorial Trophy. The conference semi-final series will open the postseason and run from Aug. 7-9, followed by conference finals, which start on Aug. 11 and go through Aug. 13. The WCBL Championship Finals is slated to being Aug. 15, all playoff series are a best-of-three. 15
