Ringette Roundup: U12A Mustangs host top-seeded Airdrie for pair of league games

The Medicine Hat U12A Mustangs ringette team had a pair of tuneup games this weekend ahead of the Ed Horvath tournament.

The Mustangs hosted top-seeded Aridrie Sting for a set of league games at the Moose Rec Centre on Sunday.

In the first game, Airdrie started the scoring and went to an early lead that resulted in a 12-4 win over Medicine Hat.

Charlie Lowe found the back of the net twice, with Avery Fuller and Sloan Loehndorf adding singles in the loss. Zoe Aarden had two assists, Lowe, Loehndorf and Fallyn Weeks each added helpers. Zayda Dawson stood tall in net, facing 52 shots.

Airdrie started the scoring strong again in the second game, running out to a 7-1 win. The Mustang’s lone goal came from Lowe. Dawson was strong between the pipes, facing another 50 shots on net.

The Mustangs are all back in action this weekend for the Ed Horvath tournament this weekend.

The U12B Mustangs played a couple of games against Calgary NW on Saturday.

The first game was a close one, with Medicine Hat eventually falling 9-7. Kimber Moch and Addison Staheli each scored twice, with single goals coming from Lexxon Martinez, Jayla Klaudt and Eris Davies.

They dropped the second game 8-4, with two goals scored by Maizee Trotter, along with single goals scored by Moch and Ellie Weisgerber.

U10

The U10 Step 2 Mustangs had two games against the Indues Lightning over the weekend.

Adelyn Morvik in net for the first half, Sadie Ryks was between the pipes for the second half.

Kylie Klaudt and Morvik each scored twice, Brinley Chabluk had a solo tally.

In the second game, Talia Chartrand started in the first period and Kylie Klaudt was in net for the second half.

Addison Clegg scored twice and both Olive Rost and Chabluk scored.

No scores were reported.

The U10 Step 3 Mustangs faced Foothills this weekend, winning the first game 7-5.

The scoring began with Brielle St. Laurent, who buried the opener off passes from Miriam McClung and Everley Cross. Laila Loehndorf followed up to extend the lead. St. Laurent added her second of the game shortly after, assisted by Hudson Kerluke.

Before the end of the first period, Rozyln Moch found the back of the net, finishing a feed from Loehndorf to send the Mustangs into the break with momentum.

The second period saw the Mustangs continue to push offensively. Addy McKinley struck twice, widening the gap. Everley Cross added another, set up by St. Laurent and Rowyn Greenlay, securing the win.

Between the pipes, Gabriella O’Reilly stood tall.

They skated to a commanding 10-3 win in the second game.

St. Laurent took over goaltending duties and stood tall as the offence worked.

The opening period featured goals from McClung (assisted by McKinley), Loehndorf (assisted by McClung), Moch, and McKinley, with Gabriella O’Reilly earning the assist on McKinley’s marker.

In the second period, Medicine Hat’s attack exploded. McKinley added another, again with O’Reilly picking up the helper. Cross, assisted by Greenlay, extended the lead, followed by additional goals from Loehndorf, Moch and O’Reilly herself. Cross closed out the scoring with her second of the game, assisted by O’Reilly.

Ed Horvath tourney this weekend

The Medicine Hat Ringette Association’s Ed Horvath Tournament is this weekend with teams from Alberta and Saskatchewan competing in the three-day tournament.

The 38 teams, split between eight age divisions, will play round robin games that get underway Friday with the championships awarded on Sunday.
