The Medicine Hat U19B Mustangs went to Edmonton over the weekend looking for a medal – and they accomplished their goal.
The Mustangs finished second at the Edmonton Silver Ring tournament, their first tournament action of the season.
They opened the tournament with a 2-1 win over Sherwood Park-2, outshooting their opponent 44-15. Kasey Martin and Avi Velichko each scored, Jayna Allchurch, Reese Tabor and Leighton Wright had assists.
The Mustangs beat Edmonton in their second game, winning 8-2. Raleigh Jackiw had three goals, Velichko had two goals and an assist, Martin, Kenzie Provost and Ava Allchurch each scored solo markers. Wright had three assists, Provost and Kendall Smith each had two assists.
In their final round-robin game, the Mustangs skated to a second 8-2 win, beating Calgary South. Ava Allchurch had three goals, Wright had two goals and two assists, Velichko had a goal and three assists, Jackiw had a goal and two helpers and Provost had a goal and an assist. Wright added two helpers.
The round-robin sweep put the Mustangs in the final where they fell 4-2 to Calgary NW-2. Martin and Provost scored and Bella Heinrichs, Sutton Provost, Ava Allchurch and Ravyn Lehr had assists.
The Mustangs had four players crack the leaderboard for scoring leaders at the Silver Ring tournament. Velichko was second, Wright was third, Jackiw was eighth and Ava Allchurch was ninth.
The next action for the U19B Mustangs is at the Ed Horvath Tournament Dec. 5-7 in Medicine Hat.
U14
The U14B Mustangs travelled to Calgary this weekend for a couple games against Calgary Northwest.
They dropped both games, falling 9-2 and 10-3.
Jorja Sadler and Haven Ward each scored in the first game with assists coming from Kassidy Etienne and Dannalee Sawchuk. In the second game, Brinley Cross tallied a pair of goals, assisted by Arika McDowall and Rhya Weinberger. Haven Ward also scored with Annabelle O’Reilly assisting. Grace Stirling was in net for both games.
The U14B Mustangs have next weekend off and will return to the ice for the Ed Horvath Tournament beginning Dec. 5.
