The Medicine Hat Cubs showed some consistency en route to a win in their lone weekend game.

The Cubs hosted the High River Flyers on Saturday, winning 4-1 for their third win in a row. General manager Randy Wong says they spoke about keeping up their consistency in games they should win ahead of a closer weekend ahead.

“Making sure that we’re ready for the good teams that come in, next week is a tough one with Okotoks and Red Deer,” Wong said. “You can’t make those mistakes against teams like (High River) because you’re going to make them in a game against Red Deer where they’re showing signs they’re a good hockey club. So hopefully they learn from that and grow and that’s what it’s all about, is growing and getting better each game. But get ready for the bounce.”

Wong was filling in on the bench Saturday alongside assistant Johnny Stehr with head coach Trent Derzpah away on vacation.

Nolen Sutherland had a pair of goals in the win, with both Austin Derzaph and Mason Osinski scoring for the Cubs. Captain Kyle Woolridge and Hayden King each had two assists, Kayne Wright made 16 saves.

The win Saturday has the Cubs sitting third in the South division with a 10-6-1 record, a point back of the Okotoks Bisons (10-6-2) and two back of the division-leading Coaldale Copperheads (11-6-1).

The Cubs are on the road Saturday to face Okotoks before hosting the Red Deer Vipers on Sunday for a 3:30 p.m. contest at the Kinplex.
