jtubb@medicinehatnews.com@ReporterTubb The Medicine Hat U15AAA South East Tigers hope the Medicine Hat Hockey Hounds’ illustrious tournament provides a mid-season boost. The Tigers came into the tournament with a 0-11 start to their season, dropping the first two games of the 10-team tournament with a 4-2 loss Thursday to the Thompson Blazers and 3-2 Friday to the Martinsville Mauraders. Head coach Garry Kimmen says the 52nd Hockey Hounds tournament gives them something to work toward mid-season. “It’s a good tournament, the Hockey Hounds have put on a great one for 51 years now, it’s been a really good tournament,” Kimmen said. “For our guys, they’re actually working towards something. So they’re trying to build, get strength and get commitment towards the way we want to play. I can see those strides coming every single game.” Raylan Johnson and Teddy Maser scored for the Tigers in the first game, Sam Boyko and Beckam Sprunger found the back of the net in the second game. The Tigers pushed pressure in the last minutes of the loss to Martinsville, hitting posts throughout the close loss. Kimmen says it’s the type of the game that can give them momentum as the tournament continues on. “The group is feeling pretty good, obviously disappointed with a close loss and we haven’t won a game yet, but we’re pushing, we’re trying,” Kimmen said. “The kids are getting better and I enjoy that. That’s the part I enjoy about this, is kids are getting better. You can see that there’s progressions being made and I think we’re in a good spot moving forward.” The Tigers faced the Notre Dame Hounds on Friday night in a game that was not complete by press time. They’ll finish their round-robin play on Saturday afternoon against the Pilot Mound Buffaloes at the Kinplex in a 1:30 p.m. contest. The tournament wraps up on Sunday with playoff play that starts at 9:30 a.m. and finished with the Hockey Hounds championship game at 12:30 p.m., held at the Kinplex. 11
