The Medicine Hat Tigers have re-assigned a second player this month.

The Tigers have sent 16-year-old defenceman Luke Warrener to play at the U18 level with the Calgary Northstars. Warrener played in just three of the Tigers’ 19 games, recording an assist.

The youngest skater on the nine-man blue line will get more ice time at the U18 level, associate coach Joe Frazer says. He says Warrener had two strong months with the WHL club and will get to further his development.

“He was able to see how we do things here and the pace of play at this level,” Frazer said. “Now he knows what it is like and he can get back to playing lots of minutes and keep developing. It’ll be great for him.”

The Tigers selected Warrener 36th overall in May’s WHL Draft, trading up to draft the Buffalo, N.Y. product who spent last season with the South Alberta Hockey Academy’s U18 team. He had six goals and 15 points in 32 games with the academy team, suiting up in four playoff games with two assists.

The Tigers reassigned 16-year-old forward Luke Ruptash to the St. Albert Raiders U18 team on Nov. 5.

Defenceman Niilopekka Muhonen is listed as week to week with a lower-body injury. Forward Shaeffer Gordon-Carroll is listed with the same designation, out with an upper-body injury. The Tigers are on the road this week, facing the Regina Pats on Friday and the Brandon Wheat Kings on Saturday.
