Rattlers roundup: MHC’s men’s volleyball record first win, split weekend slate

The Medicine Hat College men’s volleyball team recorded their first win of the season.

The Rattlers lost their first game of the weekend, falling in three sets at home Friday to the University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings (21-25, 16-25, 19-25) before beating the visiting NAIT Ooks (25-18, 25-22, 25-22) Saturday to collect their first win of the season.

In Friday’s loss, William Reiniger had seven kills.

Cade Harrison led the MHC attack in the win Saturday with 13 kills and both Joel Lehr and Reiniger had 11 kills.

MHC’s women’s team dropped both their games in three sets, losing Friday to the Vikings (16-25, 21-25, 11-25) and Saturday to the Ooks (13-25, 10-25, 22-25).

Fayth Spencer had nine kills in the loss Friday, Jaivyn Barabe also had nine kills on Saturday.

The Rattlers volleyball teams are off this week before the men (1-3) and women (2-3) face the Concordia University of Edmonton on Nov. 15.

Basketball

MHC’s men’s basketball team split their weekend on the road, beating the Vikings 79-72 on Friday before falling 83-66 on Saturday to NAIT.

Jordan Biggar had 18 points and seven rebounds in Friday’s win, Wol Wol had a double-double with 13 rebounds and 12 points. Kieran Isnor also had a double-double with 13 rebounds and 12 points.

On Saturday, Isnor had 11 points and seven rebounds and Wol had 13 points and six boards.

The Rattlers’ women’s team dropped both games, falling 80-75 Friday to the Vikings before losing 86-80 Saturday to the Ooks.

Alexis Watkiss had 20 points and six rebounds for the Rattlers on Friday, Jasmine Gardiner added 13 points and six boards.

Watkiss led the scoring on Saturday as well with 17 points.

MHC’s men’s (2-4) and women’s (4-2) basketball is off until Nov. 15 when they host Concordia University

Hockey

The Rattlers’ women’s hockey team played a pair of games over the weekend against the Red Deer Polytechnic.

They lost in overtime Friday, falling 3-2 before losing in double overtime on Saturday 2-1.

Sage Nohr had a goal and assist on Friday, Zayda Summach added a solo marker as well. Sarah Shields made 34 saves.

In Saturday’s loss, Mya Girard scored for the Rattlers and Anna Stewart made 39 saves.

The Rattlers (1-5) have three home games this weekend, hosting the Lakeland College Rustlers. Friday’s action is at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 7:15 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m., all games at the Moose Rec Centre.
