The Medicine Hat Minor Softball Association had a member of the board receive a provincial merit award.
Scott Kelly, vice president of admin and director at large of Medicine Hat Minor Softball, was selected as one of the 2025 Zone 1 Provincial Merit Award recipients.
Kelly has been on the MHMSA executive for five years and he helped assist in the development of the MHMSA board, sitting on several committees, facilities action plan, Thunder policy development and Thunder advisory.
He has coached within the house league for over 10 years and he has coached within the Thunder program since 2015 (recording three bronze finishes). He coached the Alberta Summer Games team in 2018 and 2023, winning gold. He was selected as the Softball Alberta minor coach of the year in 2018.
The softball association also announced the recipients of the second annual MHMSA scholarship.
The MHMSA player scholarships were awarded to Clara Butterfield and Maia Petersen and the coach or umpire scholarship recipients were Jake Collier (umpire) and Alyssa Schimpf (coach).
