Rattlers roundup: Rattlers women’s hockey notches first win of season

The Medicine Hat College Rattlers women’s hockey team picked up their first win of the campaign.

The Rattlers bounced back from a 5-3 loss Friday to the NAIT Ooks, winning 3-1 Saturday over the same team. Both games were held at the Moose Rec Centre

Airy Thomas, Sage Nohr and Zayda Summach each scored in the loss Friday, Anna Stewart made 38 saves.

In Saturday’s win, Nohr scored twice and Chloe Johnson had a goal and an assist. Stewart stopped 32 shots.

The Rattlers (1-3) are off until Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 when they take on the Red Deer Polytechnic on the road.

Soccer

The Rattlers’ men’s soccer team suffered their first loss of the season, coming in the final regular season game.

They beat the Ambrose Lions 7-1 on Saturday before falling 4-0 Sunday at home to the South division leading SAIT Trojans.

Against Ambrose, Joao Cintra scored three times and all four of Kylan Wol-Harden, Davi Amorim, Aleksa Bijelic and Jackson Grace scored. Noah Scolly worked 75 minutes in net, with two saves. Tayvin Kelemen made three saves in 15 minutes of action.

Maksymilian Slaweta made seven saves in the loss Sunday.

MHC’s women’s team also split the weekend, winning 6-2 Saturday over Ambrose before falling 1-0 Sunday to SAIT.

The Rattlers had six different goal scorers with Alexis Ratke, Milah McCarty, Alivia Rybchinski, Charley Indzeoski, Keandra Leslie and Tyler Cimolini all finding the back of the net. Abby Lalach and Rylan Morhart split the game in net, each making two saves.

Lalach made six saves in the loss Sunday, the women’s (7-5) final game of the season.

The men’s (9-1) team will head to Lethbridge this week for the ACAC championship starting Thursday with champions crowned Sunday.

Basketball

MHC’s women’s basketball team started their season with a pair of wins over the weekend.

They beat the Keyano College Huskies 68-64 on Friday and topped the Lakeland College Rustlers 86-40 on Saturday.

In Friday’s win, Jasmine Gardiner had 33 points to lead the offence. Individual results were not available from the win Saturday.

The men’s team lost 102-73 Friday to Keyano College and fell 94-76 Saturday to Lakeland College.

Wol Wol had 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Rattlers in the loss Friday. Jordan Biggar had 12 points. Individual results were not available from the loss Saturday.

MHC’s women’s (2-0) and men’s (0-2) teams face the Ambrose Lions for a pair of games this weekend. They’ll host Ambrose on Friday for the home opener before heading on the road Saturday.
