SAHA’s U18 men take two of three in season-opening weekend

The South Alberta Hockey Academy U18 team picked up a pair of wins over the weekend.

They beat OHA Edmonton in back-to-back contests, winning 4-3 Friday in overtime before a 4-2 win Saturday.

Medicine Hat Tigers defenseman Kayne Wright scored twice, Damen Vanderberg had a goal and an assist and Kutcher Aquila scored as well. Hunter Zawislak made 32 saves.

In Saturday’s win, Karter Kurpjuweit scored twice and both Brennan Finke and Aquila scored solo markers. Tigers’ prospect Cash Christie made 33 saves.

SAHA lost 7-1 Sunday to the Northern Alberta Xtreme.

Devin Pelletier scored the U18’s lone goal, Zawislak made four saves in the start. Christie stopped 16 shots in relief.

The U18 men’s team (2-1) have three road games this week, facing St. George’s School on Friday, Pacific Coast Hockey Academy on Saturday and finish the weekend against Yale Hockey Academy on Sunday.

U18 female

SAHA’s U18 female team dropped their three games over the weekend, losing 4-2 Friday to RINK Kelowna, 6-1 Saturday to Delta HA Green and 2-0 Sunday to Okanagan Hockey Academy.

Maria Facca and Teylor Crocker scored in the loss Friday, Mika Yokota made 40 saves. Kamryn Reiber scored SAHA’s lone goal Saturday, Phoenix Buckler stopped 39 shots. Buckler stopped 28 shots in the loss Sunday.

They opened the season with a 1-0 shootout win Sept. 22 over Balmoral Hall School. Mika Yokota stopped all 38 shots she faced in the goalie battle that ended with Crocker and Facca scoring in the shootout.

SAHA’s U18 female (1-3) team hosts Edge Hockey Academy on Friday (7:45 p.m.) and Saturday (2:15 p.m.), both games at the Big Marble Go Centre.

U17

SAHA’s U17 men’s team beat the Indigenous Sports Academy on Sunday, winning 5-4 at the Moose Rec Centre. Carter Gilchrist had two goals with an assist, Briggs Fabro had a goal and two assists and Lucas Fisher had a goal and an assist. Liam Green scored a solo marker and Chase Nielson made 37 saves.

The U17 men’s team next slate of CSSHL games is Oct. 25-27, facing the Northern Alberta Xtreme and OHA Edmonton on the road.

U15

SAHA’s U15 men’s team lost a pair of games this weekend, falling to RINK Winnipeg 5-2 on Saturday and 6-0 on Sunday.

Nelson Sonna Soufo and Kovann Chisholm scored in Saturday’s loss, Patrick Curtis made 41 saves. Cole Anderson stopped 28 shots in the loss Sunday.

SAHA opened their season with four games in September, beating the Notre Dame Hounds 6-2 on Sept. 25. They lost 6-2 on Sept. 26 to RINK Winnipeg before beating the Pilot Mound Hockey Academy 8-1 and 10-1 on Sept. 27 and 28 respectively.

The U15 men’s team will host the Northern Alberta Xtreme on Saturday (7:45 p.m.) and Sunday (11:30 a.m.), both games at Big Marble.
