newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com The Rattlers men’s soccer team continued their perfect start to the ACAC season with a pair of weekend wins. On the road for both games, they topped the Olds College Broncos 5-1 on Saturday before blanking Red Deer Polytechnic 4-0 Sunday. Saturday’s win saw five Medicine Hat College athletes score, with Aleksa Bijelic, Davi Amorim, Joao Cintra, Koen Petryna and Kylan Wol-Harden each found the back of the net. Noah Scolly and Tayvin Kelemen were each in net for the win. Stefan Vrska made two saves in the shutout win Sunday. Tata Mugisha, Aminja Abbe, Bijelic and Joao Nascimento all scored. (7-0) The Rattlers women’s team split their weekend slate, winning 1-0 Saturday over Olds College before falling 5-0 to Red Deer on Sunday. Nicoly Souza scored in Saturday’s victory, Abby Lalach recorded the shutout. She made five saves in the loss to Red Deer. The men (7-0) and women (4-4) face the Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks in Raymond on Saturday. The women’s team will host the University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings Sunday for a 1 p.m. contest. Hockey The Rattlers’ women’s hockey team opened their season on the road Saturday. They led 3-1 after 40 minutes before falling 4-3 to the Polytechnic. Zayda Summach had a goal and an assist and both Marissa Cain and Mya Girard scored. The Rattlers (0-1) host the NAIT Ooks on Friday at the Moose Rec Centre for a 6 p.m. home opener. Cross-country MHC’s cross-country team raced in Camrose over the weekend at the ACAC 4 – Augustana Open. All 12 ACAC schools with cross-country teams were represented at the meet, a last tuneup before the ACAC Championships Oct. 25 in Grande Prairie. Placing four women in the top 16, the Rattlers women finished second to Red Deer Polytechnic in the women’s 6 km race. They were led by the duo of Phoenix Asprey and Maddie Scrimger who finished fifth and sixth respectively. They were followed by Reyna Woodruff (15th), Ellie Barlow (16th), Addy Weir (30th), Aki Iwata (33rd), Ciana Catonio (34th), Ava Dyck (39th), Presely Brennan (40th), Hannah Ulm (42nd) and Elise Stark (45th). On the men’s side, rookie Logan Pancoast was the first Rattler runner to cross the end line, finishing fourth in the men’s 8km. Teammates Keegan Kolody (23rd) and Spencer Willson (28th) followed him and Askia Tahirou (46th) and Griffin Goodfellow (50th) also competed. Collectively, the Rattlers were 6th among men’s teams. 17
