Rattlers roundup: Rattlers’ women’s soccer splits weekend

The Medicine Hat College Rattlers women’s soccer team split their second regular season weekend.

The Rattlers beat the University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings 5-1 on Saturday before falling 2-0 on Sunday at home to the Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks.

Saturday’s win, coming on the road, was led by a pair of goals from both Alexis Ratke and Nicoly Souza. Milah McCarty scored a solo tally, the final goal of the game. Abby Lalach made five saves in net for the Rattlers. Lalach had seven saves in the shutout loss to the Kodiaks on Sunday.

The Rattlers’ men’s soccer team also faced Lethbridge Polytechnic on Sunday, winning 4-2. Tata Mugisha, Joao Cintra, De’Shaunt Gelinas-Cato and Kylan Wol-Harden all scored for the Rattlers. Stefan Vrska made five saves in the win.

The women (2-2) and men (3-0) host the Ambrose Lions on Saturday. The women’s match starts at noon, the men’s at 2:15 p.m.

Golf

Rattler golfers competed at the ACAC Regionals No. 2 at Lynx Ridge hosted by SAIT over the weekend. The two-day tournament started Friday and wrapped Saturday with MHC’s men’s and women’s team each finishing in second place.

Rylan Hodgson (75,70) finished second on the men’s side at +3. The Rattlers had two other top-10 finishes on the men’s side with Keelan Burzminski (80, 67) and Wyatt Bishop (75, 73) coming in fifth and sixth respectively. The other five men’s finishes were Hayden King (78, 78, T16), Isaac Stehr (83, 80, T21), Rylan Montgomery (74, 91, T24), Makhi Carriere (79, 87, T26) and Adam Sim (87, 87, T30).

On the women’s side, Kiara Reesor finished fifth at +27 (89, 45). Ava Bratvold (100, 49) also finished top 10, coming in seventh. Zoe Hodgson (112, 58) finished 14th. Due to rain, the women’s division played just nine holes on Saturday.

The ACAC Golf Championship gets underway Sept. 21 at the Alberta Springs Golf Course in Red Deer with the champions crowned Sept. 23. Medicine Hat College, the Rattlers and Desert Blume Golf Club are set to host the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association golf championships Oct. 12-17.
