Mavs promote assistant coach Ryan Reed to head coach for 2026 season

The Medicine Hat Mavericks have named a new head coach for next summer.

The Mavs announced via social media Monday that assistant coach Ryan Reed has been promoted to the head coach position for the 2026 season.

Reed joined the Mavs this summer from Mid-America Christian University where he is the assistant coach and strength and conditioning coach.

This summer Reed worked alongside assistant coach Cesar Rodriguez and head coach Jonathon Thornhill.

With Thornhill at the helm the Mavs had a 34-21 regular season record, the third-highest total since 2010 and the most wins since 2018.

The Mavs were swept in the first round by the eventual WCBL champion Regina Red Sox.
