Lawn Bowling Club hosts annual yardstick tourney

The Medicine Hat Lawn Bowling Club broke out the yardsticks for its annual tournament.

The local club held the Welltraxx Yardstick tournament on Saturday, an event that is played as regular lawn bowls with the exception that all the bowls, on either team, score if they are within a yard of the jack.

It’s a game style that leads to high-scoring contests. This year’s tournament saw new teams drawn after each game. The top-three bowlers on the ladies and men’s sides each won autographed yard sticks, signed by all of the participants.

On the ladies side, new lawn bowler Shirley Richards was the top bowler with 57 points, with Pat Ferrier and Barb Moll finishing second with 54 points and Linda Bower in third with 49 points.

In the men’s division, Doug Sanregret won with 70 points, with Frank Buck in second with 68 points and Cave Starling and Curt Moll coming in third with 65 points.
