Gordon-Carroll, Davidson win Hlinka Gretzky Gold with U.S., Rucks and Canada take bronze

The final day of the Hlinka Gretzky Cup saw four Medicine Hat Tigers don medals.

Forwards Shaeffer Gordon-Carroll and Noah Davidson captured gold Saturday with the United States, beating Sweden 5-3 for the U.S.’ second ever gold medal at the U18 tournament.

Davidson scored in the first period to put the U.S. up 2-1, finding the back of the net with a tap-in on the door step. He added an assist later in the game to finish with two points in the gold medal clincher. Gordon-Carroll was the U.S.’ top face-off man, winning 10 f 13 draws.

In the tournament, Davidson had three goals and six points in five games. Gordon-Carroll had a goal and an assist in five games. The United States punched their ticket to the final with a 4-3, shootout win Friday over Canada.

Team Canada, with Tigers’ forwards Markus and Liam Ruck finished the Hlinka Gretzky Cup by claiming the bronze, beating Finland 3-0 on Saturday. The medal win is Canada’s 30th medal at the tournament, just the second time they’ve won bronze at the Hlinka Gretzky. Their loss to the U.S. on Friday snapped a three-year gold streak.

Liam Ruck finished his tournament with two goals and four points, Markus had three assists, both played five games.

For the Rucks, it’s their second medal win while donning the red and white for the third time. They won gold for Canada at the U17 Hockey Challenge last fall, they also represented Canada at the Youth Winter Olympics in February 2024, finishing fourth.
