The Medicine Hat Tigers were well represented at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup on Tuesday.
The Ruck twins recorded their first points of the U18 tournament with a combined trio of assists in Canada’s 9-1 win over Switzerland.
Markus had a pair of helpers, notching two assists on a pair of goals by Spokane Chiefs forward Mathis Preston. Liam’s assist came on Preston’s second of three goals in the third period of the win.
The Rucks played on separate lines in Monday’s 5-3 win over Finland and started Tuesday’s game on different lines as well. They were reunited in the third period, alongside Preston, re-forming a trio that have seven years experience playing together.
Canada finishes their preliminary round today against Czechia with puck drop at noon MST.
In the other pool, the United States lost 5-3 to Sweden for their first defeat of the tournament.
Tigers’ forward Shaeffer Gordon-Carroll scored the game-opening goal Tuesday, creating a turnover and scoring two minutes into the contest. The 2025 WHL champion was named player of the game for the U.S.
Recently signed Tiger Noah Davidson was named the United States’ player of the game Monday in their 6-3 tournament-opening win over Slovakia. Davidson scored the game winner in the last five minutes of the third period.
The U.S. finish their preliminary round play today against Germany, puck drop at 7:30 a.m. MST.
Thursday is an off day at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup before the playoffs begin on Friday. Canada is looking to win a third straight gold medal. The Tigers have been represented at three straight Hlinka Gretzky Cups with Gavin McKenna taking first place for Canada in 2024 and Cayden Lindstrom winning gold in 2023.
