Missoula won the American Legion AA State Tournament hosted by Medicine Hat Big League at AP, beating the Billings Scarlets 10-0 on Sunday to be crowned Montana/Alberta State champions. Missoula scored three runs in the bottom of the first, adding two more in the third and a four-spot in the fourth for the 9-0 lead. They scored a solo run in the bottom of the sixth for the 10-0, mercy rule walk-off win. Stellan Ridley led the Mavericks with two hits and five RBIs, with a two-run home run in the third. Missoula walked off the Billings Royals on Saturday in a 10-9, comeback win to punch their ticket to the finals. The Scarlets beat the No. 1 seed Helena Senators 3-1 on Saturday to put themselves in the finals. The Mavericks will advance to the Northwest Regional in Billings, Mont. to be held Aug. 7-11. They will face the Billings Royals who earned an automatic bye as the host team. The regional champion will advance to the American Legion Baseball World Series held in Shelby, North Carolina during the second week of August. That tournament is to be broadcast on ESPN. 8
