sports@medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews The Medicine Hat Mavericks look to set a new win mark with a handful of games left on the 2025 calendar. The Mavs’ 8-6 win Tuesday at Swift Current over the 57s was the 33rd win of the season, tying last year’s win total with six games left on the schedule. The 33-win mark is the WCBL club’s fourth-highest win total since 2010, trailing the 2011 Mavs (34), 2018 (38) and 2013 (39). The 2018 Mavs’ 38-9 season total holds the WCBL record for win percentage at .809. Outfielder Yusei Uzawa had three hits in the win Tuesday, recording an RBI. Uzawa had a stolen base, brining his season total up to 22, the fourth most in the WCBL. First baseman Aaron Vulcano had two RBIs and a hit, bringing him up to 20 RBIs in the month of July and 39 on the season. Catcher Jaden Babiuk had three hits and an RBI. Tyler Spruiell started the game, working two innings allowing four runs, striking out two. Jensen Cockrell earned the win with five innings of work, allowing just one hit and surrendering two walks, striking out three. The Mavs continue their season-ending road trip tonight, taking on Swift Current for the final time this season. They head to Weyburn on Friday for the first of a two-game set against the Beavers that wraps up on Saturday. The Mavs will end the regular season in Saskatoon with games scheduled for Sunday and Monday and one game still to be made up against the Berries. Tuesday’s win also clinched second place in the East division for the Mavs for the third straight summer. They will host Game 1 and if needed, Game 3, of their first-round series. The Regina Red Sox (25-25) sit in third place and the Moose Jaw Miller Express (22-28) hold the final playoff spot. If the postseason opened tonight, the Mavs would face Regina in the opening-round for the third time in four seasons. The WCBL playoffs get underway Aug. 6. 16
