Tennis Club hosts summer mixed doubles tournament

The Medicine Hat Tennis Club held their summer mixed doubles tournament over the weekend.

The local club saw 32 players participate in the two-day event.

In the open event, Aarren Russell and Thomas Fentabil defeated Tracy and Calvin Heller 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 to win the championship.

Reina and Jordan Schibler took down CoraLee and Kevin Riehl 6-2,6-3 to capture the b-side championships.

In the Intermediate division, on the A-side, the mother/son team of Margaret and Josh Klok out lasted Carla Thorogood and David Schnare 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

The Grandma and grandson team of Sheila Reinheller and Lincoln Bensler def the father/daughter team of Maryn and Geoff Paulgaard 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 to capture the B-Side Intermediate title.

On the C-Side, Intermediate division, Francesca Jonker and Noel Thomas defeated Gail Nelson and John Ambrosi in a nail biter, 5-7, 6-3, 10-7.

Next up for the Tennis Club is a Tennis Alberta Junior tournament Aug. 1-3. After that, they’ll host the Medicine Hat Open Singles and Doubles Aug. 20-24.
