The local ball hockey league hosted a five-division minor provincial tournament over the long weekend in Medicine Hat at the Kinplex, Hockey Hounds Arena and the Moose Rec Centre. A total of 40 teams from across Alberta, including nine local teams featuring 155 Scorchers athletes, competed over four days of action with medals being awarded on Monday in both ‘A’ and ‘B’ divisions. Medicine Hat teams captured eight medals, the first being the U9 Silver Scorchers who won gold in the ‘A’ final on Monday morning. They beat the SP Ballhogz 8-2 with a hat trick from Liam Baumback. Seth Sokolan scored twice, Lucas Leidal had a goal and an assist and both Ethan Seeley and Hudson O’Reilly had a goal. Atticus Teel had two assists and Jamison Ross picked up the win in net. The Scorchers Blue earned a ‘B’ division silver, falling 5-4 to the Spruce Grove Vipers. Individual stats were not available. The U11 Scorchers Blue won gold in the ‘B’ final, beating the BHE Thrashers 6-3. Maddy Neigum had two goals and two assists, Ryker Schosser had a goal and an assist and all three of Sawyer Peterson, Maxwell Coehoorn and Stetsen Kreiser scored as well. Eberley Leipert recorded the win in net. Both U13 Scorcher teams won a bronze medal, with the U13 Silver winning the ‘A’ bronze and the U13 Blue capturing ‘B’ side bronze. The Scorcher Silver beat the SP Ballhogz 5-2 led by a pair of goals from Lachlan Benci. Austin Hull, Coen Kanewischer and Tycen Lukacin each scored, Nolan Kuzik had two assists and Oliver Fichter made 24 saves in the win. The U13 Blue beat the Spruce Grove Killer Bees 2-1 to capture ‘B’ bronze. Tristan Kirkpatrick scored with 20 seconds left in the game to force overtime where Gauge Mackenzie scored the game winner. Aiden Cooke made 24 saves. The U15 Scorcher Blue lost 4-3 in the ‘A’ gold final, falling to the GP Dynamite. Ryder Smith scored and had two assists, Fletcher Aadland and Gibson Studer each scored. Jake Druar was in net. Both U18 Scorcher teams captured a medal, with the U18 Blue finishing with ‘B’ side silver and the U18 Silver captured ‘A’ side bronze. The Scorcher Blue lost 7-4 to the Calgary Fury in the ‘B’ side final. Not individual stats were recorded. The Scorcher Silver won the ‘A’ bronze final, beatng the SP Ballhogz 5-4. Kayden Van Ham had a goal and two assists, Brennan Finke, Dan Friedt, Carter Allan and Colby Gulliver each scored, Hudson Corbett made 18 saves. 17
