American legion roundup: Monarchs, Knights and Majestics all split weekend action

Medicine Hat’s American Legion teams had an even weekend of baseball action.

The Moose Monarchs won their first two games of their home tournament over the weekend.

They beat the Calgary Cubs tournament team 17-2 on Friday. Cade Moch had three hits and scored three times, adding a pair of RBIs. Wade Davies had pairs of runs scored, hits and RBIs, and Kaleb Bozek scored three times with two hits. Ayden Andersen hit a two-run home run in the second, part of a two hit, two run and three RBI day.

Mason Heintz started the game on the mound, working four innings with six strikeouts. Nixon Kunkel worked one inning with one strikeout.

They carried momentum into Saturday, beating the Central Alberta Wolves 14-3. Bozek had three hits, scoring twice and adding two RBIs. Pryce Velichko had three RBIs and scored three times, with a hit. Moch had two RBIs, two hits and two runs scored.

Andersen started the game, with two innings pitched and four strikeouts. Moch worked three frames on the mound with a strikeout and Asha Frey toed the rubber for a frame, recording a strikeout.

They had a doubleheader against the Calgary Premier Blues on Sunday, the first a round-robin game and the second for the tournament banner.

The Monarchs lost the first game 6-5, with Calgary scoring twice in the eighth inning to take the win.

Velichko had two hits and an RBI, Bozek scored once with a hit and an RBI. Parker Hunt started the game, pitching 5.2 innings with two strikeouts. Wade Davies worked the last 2.1 frames.

The Monarchs lost the last game of the tournament weekend, falling 3-2 in a two-run seventh inning for Calgary.

Bozek had two hits and two RBIs in the loss. He also started the game on the mound, recording three strikeouts in 2.1 innings pitched. Kunkel worked 1.2 innings and Frey was the last arm on the mound, pitching into the seventh.

Knights

The Medicine Hat Knights of Columbus Knights picked up a pair of wins in a four-pack of road games.

They opened the weekend on the road with a 7-4 loss Saturday in the first of two games against the Great Falls Chargers.

Ryker Miller and Ryan Ziebart each scored and had a hit, and both Liam Cunningham and Nixon Davis had a hit and an RBI. Ethan Bowey started the game on the mound, pitching three innings with a strikeout. James Cole pitched the last three innings, recording three strikeouts.

They beat the Chargers 14-4 later in the day, led by Ethan Chenard. He scored three times and had three RBIs, recording one hit. Cunningham had a pair of hits and three RBIs, scoring once. Dylan Nelson had three hits and three RBIs, scoring once.

Jayden Mook started the game, pitching 4.2 innings with a strikeout. Nelson pitched the last 2.1 innings with two strikeouts.

The Knights won the first of two games against the Tri-County Cardinals on Sunday, winning 4-3.

Ziebart, Davis and Bowey each had a hit and scored once. Ziebart started the game, with five innings on the mound with two strikeouts. Cunningham recorded the win, pitching three innings with two strikeouts.

They lost the final game of the weekend, falling 7-3.

Mook had three hits and two RBIs, Cunningham had a hit and an RBI. Hudson Ma worked 1.2 innings to start the game before Chenard took over for 3.2 innings with a strikeout. Ethan Grad recorded the final two outs of the game.

Majestics

The Saamis Rotary Majestics opened their weekend on the road with two wins.

They beat the Lethbridge Jr. Bulls 11-3 on Friday.

Dylan Harnett had four RBIs with a hit, Gavin Nardari had three hits with an RBI and a run scored. Mason App scored twice, adding a hit and an RBI.

Kade Velichko threw five innings for the win, recording eight strikeouts. Avery Straarup pitched an inning with a strikeout.

They won the first game Saturday, no-hiting the Fort Macleod Royals 5-0.

Harnett and Beckett Lybbert combined for the no-hit shutout on the mound, with Harnett recording 11 strikeouts in five innings. Lybbert had four strikeouts in two innings.

Lybbert and Max Mook each had a hit and an RBI, Opp scored twice and had a hit.

They lost the second game Saturday, falling 3-2 to the YQL Sluggers.

Opp scored once and had a hit. Jake Czember started the game, working seven innings with three strikeouts.

The Majestics dropped the final game of the weekend, falling 10-3 Sunday to the GF Outlaws.

Nardari had two hits, scoring once, and both Jace Berner and Harnett each scored once, adding a hit.

Berner started the game on the mound, with five strikeouts in four innings. Koby Brost worked two innings and Kaige Deering had two strikeouts in an inning.
