sports@medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews The Medicine Hat Tigers announced another signing, their fifth of the offseason. The Tigers inked 18-year-old forward Kade Stengrim from Brainerd, Minn. The 6-foot-4 forward played in the United States Hockey League last season, recording 11 goals and 17 points in 50 games. He added an assist in three USHL playoff games. Stengrim played for the U.S. National U18 team, suiting up in four games. He also represented the U.S. at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup last summer. “We’re thrilled to welcome Kade to the Tigers,” assistant general manager Bobby Fox said in a release. Fox, the director of player personnel for seven years before earning a promotion to assistant GM, raved about Stegrim’s on ice ability in the release. “He’s a power forward with a combination of size, speed and a wicked shot that make him hard to defend. He’s dangerous off the rush and has strength below the goal line protecting the puck and delivering reverse hits, bringing a unique edge to our lineup. Having proudly represented Team USA at the Hlinka Cup and competing in games with the NTDP, Kade is poised to make an immediate impact.” Stengrim shares the same hometown as Tigers’ associate coach Joe Frazer. The newest Tiger is the third 2007-born player the defending WHL champions have signed in the month of June, alongside defenceman Kyle Heger and goaltender Carter Casey. They also signed 2008-born forward Noah Davidson and 2209-born forward Jaxson Craig. Next on the slate for the Tigers, barring signings or trades, is the CHL Import Draft on July 2. They hold the 60th, 121st and 182nd picks in the draft. 10
