sports@medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews The Medicine Hat Tigers let the ink dry on another signing this offseason. The Tigers announced the signing of 17-year-old goaltender Carter Casey on Tuesday. The Grand Rapids, Minn. product will turn 18 in December and joins the WHL club after a split season in the Minnesota State High School league and the United States Hockey League. In 20 games with Grand Rapids High in the Minnesota State High School League, Casey was 10-9-1 with a 2.72 goals against average and a .912 save percentage. He then played for the Waterloo Black Hawks in the USHL, tallying 20 regular season games with a 3-0 record, working a 2.08 GAA and .920 SV%. Casey and the Black Hawks made it to the USHL championship series, falling in the finals. In 15 playoff games Casey had a 10-3-2 record with a 2.53 GAA and .918 SV%. “Carter is a highly athletic and quick goalie,” Tigers director of player personnel Bobby Fox said in a release. “He shows excellent puck tracking and rebound control. His competitive drive shone through after being called up from high school, where he took over the crease and led his previous Junior team to the Championship series.” Casey represented Minnesota in the 2024 USA Hockey Boys 17 National Festival and donned the red, white and blue for the United States at the 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup. The American net minder will be the third 2007-born goaltender in the Tigers system, joining Jordan Switzer who appeared in 32 games this season, four playoff games, and Cruz Chase, who the Tigers acquired from the Regina Pats on Jan. 8. Casey is the second signing the Tigers have made this week and fourth in the last seven days. They signed 2009-born forward Jaxson Craig on Monday after putting pen to paper with a pair of U.S.-born players last week. On June 19 the Tigers announced the signing of 2008-born forward Noah Davidson and 2007-born defenceman Kyle Heger. 10
