Softball roundup: U11 House League champions crowned over weekend

The Medicine Hat Softball Association held its U11 House League championships over the rainy weekend.

The Softball Association and the 10 teams playing in the three-day tournament battled rain, postponements and cancellations before crowning the champions.

The Cheetos took first place in the House League tournament, beating the Pickles in the gold medal final. The Poison took home the bronze from the weekend.

U17

The U17AA Southern Selects swept their weekend slate, recording a pair of dominant wins.

They beat the Olds Pistols U17B 14-0 to kick off the action Sunday.

Lucy Moch had three RBIs, scoring twice and tallying a hit. Sasha Todd had three RBIs with two hits and all three of Coombs, Gracie McNaughton and Jessa Krauss scoring three times each. Molleigh Coombs added a pair of hits, McNaughton adding one knock.

Both Moch and Maddy Ziegenhagel blasted home runs in the win. Ziegenhagel started the game on the mound, working four innings with three strikeouts. Coombs worked the final frame, recording three strikeouts in the lone inning of work.

They finished the weekend with a 10-1 win over the Lacombe Selects 17B. Cooombs tallied three RBIs and three hits, scoring three times as well. McNaughton followed in stride, scoring twice while recording two hits and two RBIs. Alexis Collier stood her ground in the circle, working all six innings with eight strikeouts, allowing the lone run on just two hits and four walks.

U15

The Medicine Hat U15 Thunder Red picked up three wins in their weekend on the road.

They kicked the weekend off with a 7-4 win Saturday over the Saskatoon Lazers. Audrey Scherer and Hadyen Pidlisny each had a hit, an RBI and a run scored in the win. Both Paiten Marshall and Farren Campbell tallied a hit and a run scored.

Avery Regehr and Kianna Mastel each pitched two innings, both recording three strikeouts.

The Thunder Red carried momentum into Sunday, weathering the Storm Twisters with a 12-6 win. Lia Hoffart had two RBIs and two hits, scoring once. Both Emily Agar-Weninger and Marshall had two RBIs with a hit and a run scored. Campbell added a single RBI, hit and run scored. Nellie Campbell started the game, throwing three innings with six strikeouts. Emily Kleemola pitched the final inning, recording a strikeout.

They beat the Moose Jaw Edge later in the day, winning 7-1. Pidlisny had two hits and two runs scored, adding an RBI. Farren Campbell had two RBIs and a triple, Regehr had a hit, RBI and a run scored. Kleemola started the game, pitching 4.1 innings with five strikeouts. Farren Campbell pitched the final two outs of the game.

The Thunder Red lost the last game of the weekend, falling 12-3 to the Estevan Elite.

All three of Hoffart, Regehr and Pidlisny scored a run and had a hit, while Farren Campbell had an RBI and a hit. Mastel started the game, working 2.1 innings with a pair of strikeouts. Kleemola pitched the final inning, with one strikeout.

The U15 Thunder Black played three games in Moose Jaw over the weekend.

They lost 11-8 to the Saskatoon Raiders on Saturday. Breanna Lanuk had two hits with an RBI and a run scored and both Ryyan Lewandowski and Addyson Darr had a hit, RBI and a run scored in the loss. Lewandowski started the game, pitching three innings with seven strikeouts. Darr worked the final inning.

They lost 10-2 to the Regina Royals later in the day. Jaycee Pope, Janessa Weber and Darr had a hit in the game, with Pope scoring twice. Weber worked two innings on the mound to start the game, recording a strikeout. Lewandowksi pitched the final frame.

The Thunder Black lost their last game of the weekend, falling 14-4 to the Moose Jaw Edge. Lanuk had a hit with an RBI and a run scored, Weber had a pair of RBIs and a hit. Weber also started the game, recording a strikeout. Darr pitched the rest of the game with a pair of strikeouts.

U13

The U13 Thunder White and U13 Thunder Black faced off in a Medicine Hat matchup on Monday, with the Thunder Black winning 18-11.

Freida Dressel led the Thunder Black offence with five runs scored, tallying four hits and three RBIs. Elizabeth Switzer had four hits and four RBIs, scoring twice. Alexa Jubelis had a home run in the win, finishing with four hits and four runs scored with two RBIs.

Harlo Grochocki started the game, pitching three innings with four strikeouts. Dressel pitched two innings with one strikeout, and Jubelis finished the game, recording a strikeout.

Julie Giesbrecht led the Thunder White offence with four runs scored, adding two hits and two RBIs. Both Emily Gergely and Ella Halladay each scored twice with a hit. Emery Tuchscherer worked an inning to start the game. Kassidy Etienne pitched four innings with three strikeouts and Madelyn Ulmer worked the final frame.
