The Medicine Hat Softball Association crowned the U13 House League champions this weekend.
The Sharks took first place in the weekend tournament, channeling their inner ‘West Side Story,’ by beating the Jets in the finals. The Bombers finished third in the seven-team tournament.
U17
The U17 Thunder Red had five road games last weekend, picking up a pair of wins.
They kicked the weekend off with a 1-0 win Friday, no-hitting the Calgary Kaizen-Edwards. Adriene Campbell threw a complete game, surrendering just three walks while striking out 14 batters in six innings of work. Gracie Eddy and Sydney Thompson each recorded hits, Tayler Soveran-Welte had the lone RBI with a bases-loaded walk in the fourth inning.
They lost the first game Saturday, falling 18-2 to the Lacombe Selects-Argent. Thompson scored, adding a hit and an RBI to her tally. Eddy scored as well, Mackenzie Tindall and Peightyn Williams each had a hit. Taryn Brost started the game for the Thunder, working two innings with a strikeout. Allie Evans pitched two innings as well, also recording a strikeout.
The Thunder Red rebounded with a 14-1 win later in the day, beating the Edmonton Warriors. They trailed Edmonton 1-0 through three innings, scoring five runs in the fourth and another nine in the fifth for the win. Charlie Allinson drove in four RBIs with two hits, scoring twice. Tindall had two hits with two RBIs, scoring twice and both Eddy and Campbell scored twice, each notching two hits and one RBI. Jorja Perry scored, adding a hit and an RBI.
Campbell threw all five innings in the win, recording 10 strikeouts.
They lost their last game Saturday, falling 12-2 to the Calgary Adrenaline-Jonah. Eddy and Williams each had a hit and scored a run. Kendall Smith started the game, recording two punch outs in three innings. Brost worked a frame, striking out three batters.
The Thunder’s weekend ended on a heartbreaker, falling 11-10 to the Red Deer Rage on Sunday, losing in an extra-inning walk-off.
Eddy had three RBIs, adding a hit, Thompson scored three times and had a hit. Evans and Tindall each scored twice and had two hits with an RBI, Gracie Ulmer had two hits with a run scored and an RBI.
Campbell threw eight innings, recording 12 strikeouts. Brost worked the rest of the game on the mound.
Selects
The U17A Southern Selects had four games last weekend.
They lost the first game, falling 14-1 Friday to the U16 Fusion-Moore. Aviana Velichko had a hit with an RBI, Molleigh Coombs scored once and added a hit. Maddy Ziegenhagel started the game, working two innings with a strikeout. Alexis Collier finished the game, with a strikeout in an inning of work.
The Selects won their first game Saturday, beating the U14 Magic-McCarthy 11-4. Velichko scored three times, adding two hits. Jesse Krauss had a hit with an RBI, also scoring. Coombs scored twice, adding a hit and an RBI, Lucy Moch scored three times.
Collier threw all four innings, recording six strikeouts.
They lost later in the day, falling 8-6 to the U17 Foothills Fury Elite. Velichko scored, adding a hit and an RBI. Coombs had two RBIs, adding a hit and a run scored and all three of Ziegenhagel, Sasha Todd and Collier scored and added a hit. Ziegenhagel started the game on the mound, working four innings with six strikeouts.
The Selects lost the final game of the weekend, falling 8-2 Sunday to the U18 SkyRiders Softball. Coombs had a pair of RBIs with a hit, Ziegenhagel had a pair of hits with a run scored. Collier started the game, working two strikeouts in four innings on the mound. Ziegenhagel pitched the last inning.
U15
The Thunder U15 Black had a pair of games last Sunday against the Swift Current Sonic. They lost the first game 20-6. Addyson Darr had two hits with an RBI and a run scored. Breanna Lank had a pair of RBIs and a hit and both Dylan Pancoast and Calico Jones had a pair of hits with a run scored. Ryann Lewandoski started in the circle for the Thunder, working four innings with six strikeouts. Darr finished the game, with three strikeouts in two innings on the mound.
They lost the second game, falling 13-1 to Swift Current. Hadley Vold had a hit and Jones scored the lone run. Darr started the game, splitting three innings with Janessa Weber, each recording a strikeout.
U11
The U11 Thunder Red picked up four wins this weekend in Strathmore, giving them a five-game win streak. The Thunder Red combined with the Thunder Black for the weekend tournament, leaning on Medicine Hat’s best for the success.
They opened the weekend with a 16-10 win Saturday over the Strathmore Thunder. Both Harper Clark and Chloe Toker scored twice with a hit and an RBI. Jaelie Varner had three RBIs, adding a hit. Casey Ristau had two hits and two RBIs with a run scored. Kayci Marshall and Leighton Moon threw 1.2 innings in the game, with the pair recording three and two strikeouts respectively.
The Thunder beat Bassano 16-5 later in the day Saturday. Ristau scored twice and had two RBIs with a hit. Marshall scored twice and added a hit and an RBI and both Moon and Macy Gust scored twice with a hit. Four pitchers each worked an inning on the mound, with Marshall and Presley Morrison each recording three strikeouts. Ristau had a pair of punch outs and Moon had one strikeout.
They carried momentum into Sunday, beating the SBR Sparks 16-8. The Thunder drew 12 walks in the win, with the lone hit coming from Khloe Clark who had a hit, an RBI and a run scored. All four of Varner, Gust, Ristau and Toker scored twice.
Morrison started the game, working five strikeouts in two innings in the circle. Ristau and Varner worked the final frame, each recording a strikeout.
The Thunder finished the weekend with a 15-3 win in a rematch with Strathmore. Marshall had a trio of RBIs, runs scored and hits, Clark collected pairs of RBIs, hits and runs. Morrison had two hits, scoring and recording an RBI, Varner scored twice with a hit and both Moon and Ristau scored twice.
Morrison started in the circle, with four strikeouts in two innings pitched. Moon worked a frame and Marshall pitched two, each recording a strikeout.
