Saskatchewan driver wins Bonnyville Chuckwagon Championship ahead of Med Hat tour stop this weekend

Jamie Laboucane, of St. Walburg, Sask., captured first place at the Bonnyville Chuckwagon Championship this weekend.

Laboucane, driving the Wild Rows Pump & Compression Ltd. outfit, along with outriders Kale Lajeunese and Hayden Motowylo, won the $23,500 Championship Final Heat and the George Normand Memorial Buckle after posting the best time of the Championship Final Heat with a run of 1:17.05.

Looking at Day results, Chanse Vigen, driving the KUDO Energy Services outfit, who took the Alberta AG Centre Fast Time of the Night after posting a run of 1:16.34 from barrel No. 3 in the second heat of the day. Vigen was the fast time by 44 one-hundredths of a second over Mitch Sutherland who also ran in heat No. 2.

The Bonnyville Chuckwagon Championship leads into Medicine Hat’s chuckwagon races as the WPCA rolls into the Gas City for races Thursday through Sunday at the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede grounds.

Races start at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday with Sunday’s races starting at 2 p.m.
