The Red Sox announced Tuesday the passing of 22-year-old pitcher Jesse Lubiniecki. The Regina product was involved in a single-vehicle rollover in Rosebud County, Mont. on Friday while he was on his way home to Regina from California. He pitched in four games for the Red Sox last season and was returning for his second season with the WCBL club. “The Regina Red Sox were devastated to hear of the tragic passing of Jesse Lubiniecki,” the team said in a release. “The Red Sox organization would like to extend our deepest sympathies to his parents, Noel and Kim, and his brothers, Luke, Layne and fiancée Cathy. We will play out the season with No. 33 in our hearts.” Regina will wear a No. 33 patch on their jerseys. “We are incredibly saddened to hear of Jesse’s passing and extend our sincerest condolences to his family and loved ones during this terrible time,” said WCBL president Kevin Kvame. “We are also heartbroken for Jesse’s teammates and those who got to know him through the baseball community.” The Medicine Hat Mavericks were in Regina on Tuesday, the Red Sox won 14-9. The Mavericks are back in Regina tonight for a rematch before heading to Moose Jaw on Thursday to face the Miller Express. They return to Athletic Park on Friday to host the Brooks Bombers. 12
