McCoy Colts will play for high school baseball championship

The Monsignor McCoy Colts senior baseball team will play June 3 for the APBL championship.

The Colts beat the LCI Rams 7-6 on Thursday to punch their ticket to the finals.

They won in walk-off fashion, with a line drive to left field off the bat of Liam Cunningham to score Tate Bowal, who stole second base after drawing a four-pitch walk. The Colts had nine batters record a hit in the win, with Cunningham tallying two hits with two RBIs and a run scored. Cole Carlson also had a pair of hits with an RBI and a run scored.

Pryce Velichko and JJ Barnett each recorded a hit with an RBI and a run scored.

Jayden Mook started the game, pitching 4.1 innings with three strikeouts. Nixon Kunkel worked 1.2 frames with a strikeout and Carlson pitched the last inning.

The Colts will face the Catholic Central Cougars in the final on June 3 in Lethbridge.

They earned their spot in the semis with an 8-2 win over the Eagle Butte Talons on Tuesday.

Harnett had three hits, scoring twice and Velichko had a pair of hits with a pair of runs scores. Cunningham had four RBIs, recording two hits with a run scored. Easton Kurpjuweit had three hits with an RBI.

On the mound, Harnett pitched four innings with eight strikeouts. Carlson worked three frames with three punch-outs.

Eagle Butte was led by Ty Meyer who had a hit with an RBI and a run scored. Ethan Bowey started the game, recording one strikeout in six innings of work.

The Medicine Hat High Hawks were also in playoff action on Tuesday, falling 6-5 to the Cardston Cougars.

Kyler Suberlak had two RBIs with a hit, Parker Bide scored twice with a hit.

Dylan Nelson started the game, pitching 5.1 innings with four strikeouts. Suberlak worked two outs with a strikeout.
