Monsignor McCoy High School track and field athletes brought home 12 individual ribbons, including three first-place as well as three second-place finishes during the Swift Current Comp High School Invitational Track and Field meet.
The Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education says the highlight of the competition was a first-place finish in the 4×4000 mixed relay. The team was made up of two female and two male athletes who were able to set a new track meet record with a time of 4:14:51.
Additionally the 4x100m relay team secured second place, finishing just behind the team that broke the meet record in the event.
Coach Amber Hamilton says the young athletes showed grit and determination throughout the competition
“Their effort and hard work paid off (last) weekend and we can’t wait to see what the athletes do at cities, zones and provincials. I couldn’t be prouder of the athletes these kids are becoming,” said Hamilton.
In total 17 Colts athletes attended the track meet and secured 12 individual ribbons and three more team event ribbons.
