Medicine Hat Tigers captain Oasiz Wiesblatt will play pro hockey next season.

The overage forward has signed a three-year, AHL deal with the Milwaukee Admirals announced via the team’s social media Monday afternoon. The contract will start the 2025-26 season.

Wiesblatt is in the middle of a two point-per-game playoff run with the Tigers, scoring 13 goals and 24 points through 11 games as Medicine Hat leads the Lethbridge Hurricanes 2-0 in the Eastern Conference Championship series. The Calgary product is coming off his first 100-point regular season tallying 36 goal and 103 points in 66 games in his fifth season in the WHL.

Head coach Willie Desjardins says the signing is an exciting day for the franchise and Wiesblatt.

“It was great for our team, even current guys because Oasiz is such a well liked guy on our team and he’s such a team guy,” Desjardins said. “It’s great when you get rewarded for being a team guy, for everybody in the organization, starting with Bobby Fox picking him (in the draft) and it’s his story of perseverance. It’s a story of having a dream, that you love to dream and you just commit to it. It’s just one of those feel good stories where everybody in our organization, everybody on the team, was really excited to see him be successful.”

Wiesblatt was the Tigers’ 12th overall pick in the 2019 WHL Draft. He’s previously attended development and training camps with the Columbus Blue Jackets and Washington Capitals in the summers of 2023 and 2024 respectively.

The 21-year-old will join his older brother Ozzy Wiesblatt who is in his second season with the Admirals, part of the Nashville Predators organization.

See Tuesday’s Medicine Hat News for more on the signing.
