Oil Kings move on from HC Luke Pierce

The Edmonton Oil Kings are taking a new direction behind the bench.

The Central division team announced Thursday they will not renew the contract of head coach Luke Pierce.

“This was a difficult decision, as Luke has been a valued part of our team and community for the past 7 seasons,” Oil Kings president and general manager Kirt Hill said in a release. “We’ve decided not to renew his contract moving forward but we’re incredibly grateful for the time, energy, and passion he put into this organization. We wish Luke nothing but success in his next chapter.”

Pierce was named head coach of the Oil Kings ahead of the 2022-23 season and had a record of 74-118-9-3 during his tenure. He spent four seasons as assistant coach, working on the bench during the Oil Kings 2021-22 championship team.
