Coming off the opening weekend of the WHL playoffs, four players were handed a one-game suspension for a variety of offences. Swift Current Broncos forward Sawyer Dingman received a suspension for a “gesture” made in the Medicine Hat Tigers 6-2 Game 2 win Saturday at Co-op Place. The 16-year-old Dingman was escorted to the locker room when he gave a one-finger salute to the Tigers bench and crowd. In Lethbridge, a scrum broke out at the end of a 4-3 Hurricanes’ Game 2 win on Saturday. As a result of that skirmish, Brandon Wheat Kings defenceman Luke Shipley was given a games suspension for his cross check major and game misconduct penalty. Hurricanes’ forward Jordan Gustafson received the one-game ban for cross checking. The final suspension, occurred on Sunday, with the WHL’s leading scorer in the regular season finding a new use for his stick. Spokane Chiefs forward Andrew Cristall cross-checked Vancouver Giants forward Jordan Lipinski in the face to avoid a check in the third period of the Chiefs’ 7-5 Game 2 win. Cristall was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct for the play. 11
