Rattlers name new head coach for women’s hockey team

The Medicine Hat College Rattlers women’s hockey team will have a new head coach this fall.

The Rattlers announced the hiring of James King of the women’s hockey program. He takes over after Chad Baron who led the team for the first two years of the program.

King, a Medicine Hat College alumnus has coached championship teams across multiple sports, including hockey, soccer, baseball and softball. His resume includes provincial titles such as the 2016-2017 U13A Provincial Champions, 2019 Little League Canadian junior champions and the 2017-2018 U13 AA Provincial Champions.

Most recently, he served as assistant coach for the Medicine Hat U18 AA SCAHL South Division league champions (2022-2023).

“We are pleased with the hiring of James, and excited to see what he can do with the development of the program going forward,” said Terry Ballard, Rattlers’ director of athletics.

The Rattlers women’s hockey team finished their sophomore season in the ACAC with a 2-23 record.
