The Medicine Hat U12 Mustangs capped off their season in bronze fashion.
The Mustangs took home third place at the Chinook League regional championships held in Calgary over the weekend. They entered the weekend in ninth place of the Chinook league, sitting as underdogs ahead of the three-day slate.
Grace Stirling stood tall in net for the tournament games and Zayda Dawson (the Mustang’s other goalie) was then able to play forward, joining an offence that clicked. The Mustangs kicked the weekend off with a 7-5 win Friday morning over the Calgary Bow View Cowgirls.
Rhya Weinberger, Jorja Sadler and Evangeline Robins each scored twice in the win, Annalise Robins scored a solo tally.
Friday afternoon the Mustangs played their second game, beating the Calgary Northwest Revenge 8-5. Evangeline Robins had a hat trick, Sadler and Annalise Robins each tallied a pair and Rhya Weinberger scored as well.
Saturday morning the Mustangs took on Calgary South Venom and fell behind two goals early before unleashing four unanswered goals in a 6-3 win. Sadler had a hat trick, Evangeline Robins scored twice and Weinberger scored as well.
The final game of the round robin was against the Chinook League leading Lethbridge Rattlers, who beat the Mustangs 12-6. Brinley Cross and Sadler each scored twice, Annalise Robins and Weinberger both scored solo markers.
The loss left the Mustangs in second place in pool play, putting them in Sunday’s bronze medal game against the Calgary Bow View Bandits.
The underdog Mustangs put together goaltending, offence and defence to win the bronze medal in a 7-3 victory. Annalise Robins and Sadler each scored twice, all three of Evangeline Robins, Katie Lee Sehn and Cross found the back of the net.
The Mustangs end their season with a fun battle of Parents vs. Kids 2.0 where the parents try to get their revenge after losing to the Mustangs earlier this season.
