Scrimger shines at ACAC indoor track championship

Medicine Hat College runner Maddie Scrimger capped off the indoor track season in high fashion.

The third-year Rattler won her first ever ACAC gold medal on Saturday at the 2025 ACAC Indoor Track Championships in Edmonton, finishing first with a convincing win in the women’s 3,000m.

The former Crescent Heights Viking followed the first-place finish up with a silver medal-winning run in the 1,500m. In addition to her podium finishes, she also placed 10th in the 1,000m and ran a leg on the eigth-place women’s 4 x 400 m team.

She finished the weekend with three new MHC school records in her individual events.

For her efforts in Edmonton, Scrimger was named to the ACAC Indoor Track All-Conference team for the second year in a row.

The Rattlers indoor track team had three other runners and relay teams score points by finishing in the top eight. Ellie Barlow came seventh in the women’s 3,000m, Annika Marshall was eighth in the women’s 60m and Chibuikem Chukwunyerenwa finished eighth in the 60m.

MHC’s women’s 4 x 200m relay team finished sixth and the women’s 4 x 400m relay squad came eighth. On the men’s side, the 4 x 200m relay team came fourth and the 4 x 400m relay team finished fifth.

Collectively, the Rattlers placed fifth out of 10 teams at the meet.

The weekend wraps up the indoor track season, the next focus for the Rattlers runners is the 46th annual Rattler Run scheduled for April 26. Registration is open for those interested in running the 3km, 5km, or 10km course starting and finishing on Medicine Hat College’s main campus.
