The Medicine Hat U13AA Hounds kicked off regionals in big fashion Thursday.
The Hounds, hosting the South division regional tournament, beat the East Kootenay Avalanche 9-2 to kick off the round robin with a win.
Medicine Hat enters the regionals weekend with the top record at the U13AA, Alberta Elite Hockey League level, finishing the regular season 32-2.
The Hounds scored four goals in the first and third periods to propel them in the win, outshooting East Kootenay 51-22. Two Hounds finished the afternoon with four points each as both Beckam Sprunger and Teddy Maser had a pair of goals and a pair of assists.
Raylan Johnson had two goals with an assist, Diesel Bishop had a goal and three assists and both Karter Smith and Weston Haslbeck had a goal and two assists. Dawson Ressler made 20 saves for the Medicine Hat win.
Medicine Hat went 1-3 on the power play and held East Kootenay to just one power play goal on 10 man advantages.
The Hounds’ round-robin action continues today when they face the Foothills Bisons Friday morning at 11:30 a.m. before hosting the Okotoks Oilers for a 7 p.m. game later in the day. They finish the round robin on Saturday, taking on the Wheatland Braves at 7 p.m. All games at the Hockey Hounds arena.
