sports@medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews The South Alberta Hockey Academy’s U17 men’s team remains in the running for the CSSHL semifinals. SAHA’s U17 men’s team is in Penticton this week for the western championships, opening their round robin with a split. They lost 3-1 Monday to the Prairie Hockey Academy before beating the Edge School 5-2 on Tuesday. In Monday’s loss, Kutcher Aquila scored the long goal and Hunter Zawislak made 34 saves. Brennan Finke led SAHA in the win Tuesday, with a pari of goals. Matthew Cameron-Skidmare had a goal and an assist and both Sully Kufflick and Dalin Nixon had a goal, Carson Ward had two assists. Remy Martins made 31 saves. SAHA faced the Okanagan Hockey Academy on Wednesday in their final round-robin game. That game was not complete by press time. U18 men’s SAHA’s U18 men’s team had a trio of weekend games before their playoffs got underway this week. SAHA beat Edge 3-2 on Feb. 28 with a trio of different goal scorers. Gavin Lesiuk, Tyden Lafournaise and Avery Watson all scored, Kannen Kirkwood made 38 saves. They faced Edge in a rematch on March 1, falling 4-3. Lafournaise had a goal and an assist, Lesiuk and Watson each scored, Mattias Radke made 32 stops. SAHA ended the weekend with a 6-3 win Sunday over the Prairie Hockey Academy. Lesiuk led the way with two goals, both Kale McCann and Luke Ruptash had a goal and an assist. Riley Steen and Watson each scored, Kirkwood made 28 saves. SAHA ended their CSSHL season with an 18-14-4 record and opened their playoffs Wednesday in Penticton against OHA Edmonton. That game was not complete by press time. They face Okanagan Hockey Academy today at 4:45 p.m. MST before taking on the Yale Hockey Academy on Friday in a 9:30 p.m. contest. U18 women’s SAHA’s U18 women’s team finished the CSSHL regular season in shutout fashion. They blanked the Edge academy 1-0 on Feb. 28, with Hannah Palumbo stopping all 27 shots she faced for her first shutout. Keyana Bert scored the lone goal. SAHA’s women’s team finished the year 19-8-2-1 and are also in Penticton for the CSSHL playoffs. They face Delta Hockey Academy Green on Saturday, Shawnigan Lake School on Sunday and OHA Edmonton on March 10. 20
