The Medicine Hat Mustangs Active Start program participants hit a milestone over the weekend.
The Active Start Mustangs have practised all season with the guidance of Platinum Star instructors and various MH Mustangs coaches and teams.
Those Active Start players played their first ringette games of their career, hosting the Active Start Lethbridge Rattlers team.
Both Medicine Hat teams Yellow and Green showcased a year’s lessons in the exhibition contest.
U10
The U10 Step 1 Mustangs were in Lethbridge for a pair of games Saturday.
In the first game, Adelyn Morvik was in net to start with Harper Schuh in net for the second half.
Morvik scored four times, Brielle St. Laurent scored a pair and both Kylie Klaudt and Briar Gobin scored.
In the Mustangs second game, Gobin started and St. Laurent worked the second half.
Klaudt scored six times, Ashlee Dupuis had a pair of goals and both St. Laurent and Morvik found the back of the net.
The U10 Step 2 Mustangs played two games on the road Saturday against Airdrie.
They won the first game 18-5, with Gabby O’Reilly leading the way offensively notching a pair of goals. Laila Loehndoef, Ridley Trotter and Nora Dunn all scored a solo tally. Hudson Kerluke was in net for the first half with Rozlyn Moch in net the second half.
They tied the second game with Airdrie, 8-8.
Kerluke and Loehndorf each scored a pair of goals and all four of O’Reilly, Moch, Dunn and Hailee Kopeck scored solo markers.
Hallie Vossler started the game in net, with Loehndorf working the second half.
The U10 Step 3 Mustangs wrapped up their home games of the season with a doubleheader Saturday against Lethbridge.
The first game was a back-and-forth contest. Lethbridge scored first, but the Mustangs kept the pressure on with goals from Avery Fuller, Charlie Lowe, and Everley Cross, along with two goals each from Isabelle Perrault and Sloan Loehndorf to keep it tied.
With just 37 seconds left after a timeout, Lowe fired a game-winning goal past the Lethbridge goalie. Blaire Dirk earned the win in net for the Mustangs.
The second game of the weekend was a battle of the goalies, with Zoe Aarden making 29 saves in a 4-2 victory for the Mustangs.
Loehndorf scored twice and both Drever and Kimber Moch scoring.
The Mustangs will wrap up their season on Sunday with two games in Indus.
U12
The U12 Mustangs hit the road over the weekend to play a pair of exhibition games against the Lethbridge Rattlers as both teams look to prepare for regionals.
The U12 Mustangs were joined by three U10 Step 3 affiliates who got a taste of playing up a division. Zayda Dawson stood tall in net for both games.
The Mustangs took the first game 9-4 with a trio of skaters scoring a pair of goals each. Evangeline Robins, Annabelle O’Reilly and Annalise Robins each scored twice with all three of Katie-Lee Sehn, Rhya Weinberger and Jorja Sadler finding the back of the net.
The Rattlers re-grouped and challenged the Mustangs for the second game, with the Mustangs holding on for a 7-5 win.
Two of their U10 call-ups scored, with Zoe Aarden and Charlie Lowe scoring. O’Reilly, Annalise Robins, Sadler, Evangeline Robins and Weinberger all scored as well.
The U12 Mustangs are in action again on Saturday at the Moose Rec Centre for their last home games of the season. They play Airdrie at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
U14
The Medicine Hat U14 Mustangs travelled to Airdrie in the morning Saturday.
The Mustangs ran away with an 11-2 win. Danna lee was between the pipes. Both Lacey Gibney and Breanna Lanuk each had three goals with an assist. Ally Martin had a pair of goals, Onyka Funk and Brea Butterfield each had a goal and an assist and both Kassidy Etienne and Olivia Ulbricht found the back of the net.
The Mustangs travelled to Okotoks in the afternoon to face Foothills, pulling off a 6-5 win. Jacqueline LeBlanc picked up the victory between the pipes.
Lanuk had a pair of goals with an assist, Gibney scored twice and both Funk and Etienne had a goal and an assist.
The Mustangs head to Calgary this weekend to face North West Calgary.
U16
The U16 Mustangs had just one game over the weekend, a 9-3 loss at Cochrane.
Leighton Wright scored all three goals for Medicine Hat, with both Reese Tabor and Sutton Provost tallying two assists each. Sophia Smith and Emma Pinnell split the duties in net, each playing one period.
The Mustangs will battle back at home on Sunday March 2 at 9:45 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Moose Rec Centre.
U19
The U19 Mustangs were on the road for two Division A play down games.
They faced Calgary Bow View-1 in the first game, falling 10-4.
Ryleigh Jackiw and Sophie Kerr each had a goal and an assist and both Pacie Harper and Hannah Thompson found twine.
In their second game, the Mustangs played against another skilled Calgary NW-2 team. The Mustangs skated with them before ultimately falling 12-3.
Thompson scored twice, Jordy Provost had a goal and an assist and Brooklyn Thomas added two assists.
The U19 Mustangs’ season came to a close with the losses, unable to earn spot into the ‘A’ Provincials in Red Deer.
The Mustangs congratulate four graduating players from the MHRA program, Hannah Thompson, Pacie Harper, Sophie Kerr and Rileigh Tabor.
