The Mustangs picked up a pair of wins during a doubleheader in Calgary, taking down two opponents for the Ws. In the first matchup, the Mustangs battled CNV-U16B-1 in a high-intensity game, coming out on top 8-6. The team’s offence was led by Leighton Wright, who netted five goals. Additional contributions came from Avi Velichko, Ravyn Lehr and Tia Vannmarion, rounding out the Mustangs scoring with a goal each. Despite being outshot 34-24, strong goaltending kept the Mustangs in control for the win. The momentum carried into the second game against CNWU16B-1, where the Mustangs claimed a crucial 7-5 win. Wright continued her dominance of the weekend with a hat trick, Margot Kerr found the back of the net twice. Velichko and Kensie Provost also added to the scoreboard with single tallies, flexing the Mustangs’ offensive depth. With just a few weeks remaining until provincials, the team is peaking at the right time. Their strong offensive chemistry and resilience on the ice are setting them up for a promising run. The Mustangs head out again for a game against Cochrane on Sat February 22, 2025. The U16 Mustangs look to continue rising to a peak with provincials on the horizon. Before then, they head on the road Saturday to face Cochrane. U12 The U12 Mustangs had a pair of games Sunday agist the second-place Cochrane Karma at the Moose Rec Centre. Zayda Dawson was in goal for both games. In the first game the Mustangs were overwhelmed by Cochrane, falling 14-5. The Mustangs were led by Jorja Sadler with two goals and all three of Brinley Cross, Evangeline Robins and Annalise Robins added solo markers. The Mustangs adjusted their defence in the second game but ultimately fell 9-4. Goals in the losing effort were scored by Sadler with a pair, and Maizee Trotter and Annalise Robins scoring as well. The Mustangs are on the road again next weekend to play some exhibition games in Lethbridge. 15
