Rattlers indoor track team races in Red Deer over long weekend

The Medicine Hat College Rattlers indoor track team was in action in Red Deer over the weekend.

The Rattlers raced at the ACAC 2, the RDP Open, achieving personal and season bests on the roster.

Third-year runner Maddie Scrimger led the way for the Rattlers with a resounding victory in the women’s 3,000m. Scrimger recorded a personal best time of 11:07, finishing 18 seconds better than second-place finisher Hannah Pilling of Lethbridge Polytechnic.

Spencer Wilson also managed a top-three placing in the men’s 3000m for the Rattlers.

All four Rattlers men’s and women’s relay teams in both the 4x 200m and the 4x400m races finished in fifth place with seasonal best times.

In the team standings, the Rattlers women ranked fourth, while the MHC men were sixth.

Next up for the Rattlers runners is the Medicine Hat Panthers Meet this Saturday at the Big Marble Go Centre.

Hockey

The Rattlers women’s hockey team hosted the Red Deer Polytechnic for the final home games of their ACAC season.

The Rattlers lost 7-0 on Friday, with Anna Stewart making 34 saves. They also lost Saturday, falling 3-0 to Red Deer. Jessika Charron made 41 saves.

The Rattlers women’s hockey team (2-21) is on the road this weekend to face the Lakeland College Rustlers.

Basketball

The Rattlers basketball teams faced the SAIT Trojans for a pair of games this weekend.

MHC’s men’s team lost the first game, at the Snake Pit, falling 98-83 on Friday. Jordan Biggar had 20 points and Cooper Ward notched a triple-triple, with 19 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists. The latter making him the College’s all-time assists leader, a week after he broke MHC’s men’s points record.

On the road Saturday, the Rattlers’ men’s team lost 94-83.

Ward had 19 points with seven rebounds and Biggar had 17 points as well.

The Rattlers women’s basketball team lost 91-70 to SAIT at home on Friday. Alexis Watkiss had 15 points and Breanna O’Conner had 10 points. On Saturday they lost 99-61, Watkiss had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

MHC’s men’s (9-11) and women’s (8-12) are on the road Saturday to face Briercrest College.

Volleyball

The Rattlers volleyball teams wrapped up their ACAC seasons against the SAIT Trojans.

On the road Friday, the Men’s team lost in three sets (16-25, 20-25, 20-25). Jordan McKee had eight kills for the Rattlers. In Saturday’s match, the Rattlers forced a fourth set in a loss (19-25, 21-25, 25-21, 16-25). McKee again led the attack, tallying 11 kills.

The Rattlers women’s team lost in four sets Friday to SAIT (19-25, 25-27, 25-20, 23-25). Jaivyn Barabe had 10 kills.

In Saturday’s match, the Rattlers lost in three sets (19-25, 24-26, 19-25). Fayth Spencer had seven kills and Barabe recorded two assists to break the MHC women’s volleyball assist record.

The Rattlers men’s (4-15) and women’s (4-15) volleyball team seasons came to a close with the weekend against SAIT.
