The Medicine Hat Minor Hockey Association hosted Female Hockey Day on Saturday.
The event, an initiative of Hockey Alberta, was held at the Big Marble Go Centre for its sixth rendition.
Saturday featured skates, workouts and classroom learning, following the initial focus of bringing female players, parents, coaches and supporters together for the development, growth and celebration of the game.
They had a try-hockey session for youth females looking to try the sport for the first time, as well as a para-hockey event for local girls and women who play in the Sledge Hockey program.
The skill development courses aimed for ages U13-U18, with the focus of improving players’ defensive skills and goal-scoring ability.
On top of skill development, the South Alberta Hockey Academy’s U18 women’s team faced the U18AAA Calgary Fire in an exhibition contest, winning 3-0. The Medicine Hat College Rattlers women’s hockey team also hosted the Olds College Broncos at the Moose Rec Centre, falling 4-3 in overtime.
