Hat boxers shine at locally held Silver Gloves

The Medicine Hat Boxing Club packed the Medicine Hat Lodge with a weekend of boxing action.

The local boxing club held the 20th annual Nieman/Page memorial Alberta Silver Gloves over the weekend. It was the largest tournament in Alberta, with 87 bouts across Saturday and Sunday.

Locally, Zak Czember (30 kg. Jr. A) lost unanimously to Freddy Dool from Nelson B.C. Gavin Russell (44kg. Jr. B) defeated Denis Borsa from Black Rock Red Deer in the semifinals and defeated Steve John from Chilliwack in the final. Russell also won best Jr. B boxer.

Mardik Kasarjian (54 kg. Jr. C) lost to Manuel Oraha from Alliance Saskatoon. Rylan McCullouch (54kg. Jr. C) defeated Maksim Roberts in the semis and lost to Manuel Oraha from Alliance Saskatoon in the final.

Jacob Walne (60 kg. Open Jr. C) defeated Brock Klimosko from Lacombe in the semis and lost to Sabian Smith from Nelson in the final.

Nate Vossler (60 Kg. Youth Open) lost a tough split to Sonny Meredith from Chilliwack.
