Rattlers Roundup: Women’s hockey team wins first game of second half

The Medicine Hat College Rattlers women’s hockey team started the new year off on a winning note.

The Rattlers picked up a shut-out win in their first game of the second half of the ACAC season, shutting out the Olds College Broncos 3-0 Friday night at the Moose Rec Centre.

Anna Stewart made 30 saves for the shut-out win. Mya Girard, Sienna Vieira and Amber Sesak each scored for the Rattlers.

MHC’s hockey team (2-11) is on the road this weekend, facing the Lakeland College Rustlers on Friday, and Saturday at NAIT against the Ooks.

Basketball

The Rattlers men’s and women’s basketball teams marked their return from the holiday break with a pair of games against the St. Mary’s Lightning.

The men’s team split the weekend, winning 94-77 one the road Friday before falling 111-70 at the Snake Pit on Saturday.

Ethan Robinson dropped 24 points with 12 rebounds in the win Friday. Jordan Biggar had 20 points, tallying six boards.

In Saturday’s loss, Cooper Ward led the Rattlers’ offence with 21 points and six rebounds. David Hamilton also had 10 boards.

The women dropped both games, falling 83-47 on Friday and 79-51 on Saturday.

Alexis Watkiss had 10 points and nine rebounds on Friday, with Jaida Goal putting up 10 points. Wakiss led the offence on Saturday as well, with 12 points and eight rebounds.

The Rattlers’ men’s (5-6) and women’s (4-7) have a series this weekend against the Ambrose Lions, playing on the road Friday before hosting the Lions on Saturday at the Snake Pit.
