The Medicine Hat U16B Mustangs were in Regina over the weekend.
The Mustangs face off at the Jim Benning tournament, finishing fourth with a loss in the bronze medal game.
They opened the weekend with a 6-1 win. Leighton Wright had two goals with an assist, Avianna Velichko had a pair of goal and both Margot Kerr and Reese Tabor scored a goal. Emma Pinnell was between the pipes.
The Mustangs dropped the second game of the weekend, falling 9-5 to the Buffalo Plains Outlaws. Wright had four goals, Jayna Allchurch scored a solo marker. Sophia Smith was in net.
The rebounded with a win in the third game, beating the Regina Rage 8-4. They trailed 3-1 at half time before storming back for the win.
Sloane Berstad scored a hat trick with a helper, Wright had a pair with an assist and Allchurch scored twice. Kerr added a solo tally, Pinnell was in net.
They lost the fourth game, falling 3-1 to the Regina Havoc, sending them to the bronze medal game. Sutton Provost scored the Mustangs’ lone goal, Allchurch had the assist and Pinnell was in net.
The Mustangs finished the tournament with a 7-4 loss to the Regina Wrath in the bronze medal game.
Kerr scored twice, both Kensie Provost and Berstad scored solo markers. Smith and Pinnell split duties in net.
The U16B Mustangs are at Calgary this weekend, taking on the Calgary Northwest.
U14
The Medicine Hat U14 Mustangs played in the Friends on Ice Tournament in Red Deer over the weekend.
They started off the tournament with a 14-5 win over Fort McMurray.
Dannalee Sawchuk was between the pipes, Lacey Gibney led the offence with six goals and an assist. Kassidy Etienne had four goals, Olivia Ulbrecht had a goal and an assist and all three of Ally Martin, Brea Butterfield and Jacqueline LeBlanc found the back of the net.
In the team’s first game Saturday they lost 9-3 to Foothills. Gibney scored twice, Martin had a solo tally.
In their third game, the Mustangs faced the host team Red Deer, falling short 5-4.
Gibney sacred twice and both Ulbrecht and Etienne scored.
The U14B Mustangs play at home this weekend against Calgary North West.
