Ringette roundup: U12 Mustangs hold pair of home games over weekend

The Medicine Hat U12B Mustangs played two league home games at the Moose Rec Centre this weekend.

They hosted the Calgary Bow View Bandits for a pair of games, finishing with a tie and a loss.

Zayda Dawson was in goal the first game, a 10-10 tie.

Arika McDowall and Brinley Cross each scored a hat trick and all four of Evangeline Robins, Jorja Sadler, Annalise Robins and Addison Staheli added a solo marker.

Grace Stirling had two assists.

In the second game, Stirling was in net for an 8-3 Mustangs’ loss. Katie-Lee Sehn, McDowall and Sadler all scored for the Mustangs.

The U12B Mustangs are in action again at the Ring of Fire tournament in Airdrie this weekend.

U14

The Medicine Hat U14 Mustangs travelled to High River to play Foothills on Saturday.

The Mustangs lost 10-5 to Foothills. Breanna Lanuk scored twice, also notching an assist. Kassidy Etienne had a goal and an assist and both Onyka Funk and Brea Butterfield found the back of the net. Jacqueline LeBlanc was between the pipes.

The Mustangs faced Bow View 2 later that day, falling 7-3. Lanuk scored twice and Etienne had a solo tally.

The U14 Mustangs are off until they play South Calgary in Calgary on Nov. 17.

U19

The U19 Mustangs finished fourth at the Regina Elite A Tournament.

They opened the weekend with a 3-2 overtime win Friday over the Eastman Heat.

They trailed the Heat 2-0 early in the first half before Kasey Martin and Pacie Harper scored to tie the game up at 2-2. The two teams battled back and forth, forcing overtime where Karly Stennick assisted under-ager Leighton Wright’s game winning goal at the two-minute mark. Kyrie Stern-Rebmann stood tall in net for the win.

Later in the day Friday, the Mustangs fell behind the Saskatoon Ice 2-0 through the first half. They tuned on the jets and poured on six goals in the second half for the 6-3 win.

Hannah Thompson had three goals, Sophie Kerr had a pair of goals and Wright scored a solo marker.

They opened play Saturday against the undefeated Bow View Cougars. They were tied at the half and early in the second before Bow View scored late for the 5-3 win.

Kasey Martin, Sophie Kerr and Mackenzie Tindall scored for the Mustangs.

Medicine Hat faced the South West Winnipeg Fury late Saturday, jumping out to a 4-0 lead early before Winnipeg made it 4-3 after the first half. They secured the win and a spot in the bronze finals with a 10-4 win.

Kerr scored five-straight goals for the Mustangs, with Thompson adding a pair of goals and all three of Ava Allchurch, Martin and Erika Want a single goal.

In the bronze medal game Sunday, the Mustangs faced the Regina Riot and lost 7-1.

Tindall scored the lone Medicine Hat goal as a full-weekend of ringette caught up to the Mustangs.

They’re back in action on Sunday, hosting Strathmore at the Moose Rec Centre for a pair of gamed at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
