The Medicine Hat Huff N Puffs 55’s senior slow pitch team was golden in October.
The Huff N Puffs won gold in the 55-plus division at the Huntsmen Senior World Games held in St. George, Utah from Oct. 13-16.
They started the round robin slow, with a pair of losses to start the tournament. The first loss came at the hands of Arizona, falling 14-2.
They faced a Hawaiian team, the Kauaians 55, falling 18-17. They rebounded to win the final game of the round robin, beating the Lethbridge Stray Dogs 18-4.
In the playoffs, they faced an undefeated team from Utah and won, 23-13. That win set them up for a rematch with the team from Hawaii, a contest they took 17-7.
In the semifinals, they faced a team from Alaska, shining bright with a 27-16 win to punch a ticket to the finals.
They claimed the gold medal with a 14-12 win over a Florida team.
Coach Kevin Lane says it was hard to single out any standout players, with the whole team playing well offensively and defensively. The Huff and Puff team also plays in the Medicine Hat Senior Slow pitch League.
